Injured…. Again

Categories Blog

The story of my life. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has known me for any time, that I can get hurt faster than Egypt can get a plague in the Old Testament. I have a chronic back injury (a herniated disc in my back) that likes to get pissed off and take me out for a bit of time. My back has been doing great the past 3 months. I have been icing and stretching like I should, my runs were slowly improving though only on the treadmill. Then in a classic Leona move, I decided I missed Disney so much that I wanted to pretend to be like Buzzlight year, as well all know Buzz cannot fly and neither can I, we both can fall with style though. Buzz is a much better faller than I am. He lands gymnast style on his feet and I land …. well not on my feet. I am not sure how I did it but I have managed to hurt my knee. It only hurts when I am running, going upstairs or walking up a steep hill. Stairs and hills are pretty much avoidable in NYC, so I am avoiding running. I am going to stick to the stationary bike, as well as the rowing machine for cardio and get in some crosstraining via the Nike+ app. I am going to focus on staying positive and not going back to the place in my head that gets so upset and frustrated because I am injured AGAIN! I can do this. I am not going to sit here and say that I am going to come back a stronger runner, because that is BS I will be starting over (again). I will say that I am going to be mentally stronger this time. I am going to really focus on the moment and the fact that I can still workout and I am not completely sidelined.

How do you stay positive during an injury, plague or set back?  Leave me a comment and give me some ideas.

PS For those of you who have been asking me to write more and update more… I promise I am going to try.
